My compliments to the Swedish Chef

Paul and I flew to an airport south of Stockholm and after spending a little time in Stockholm we headed up to Uppsala, where Gabe's good friend Maartje would be our tour guide. She's actually new to Sweden, having just joined a bio lab there after her time at Oxford.

I don't have many photos from Uppsala because my camera was running out of batteries. In fact, there will be no new photos because I didn't pack a charger. Dur.

A really long street in Stockholm full of cafes and stores with junk. H&M world headquarters (?) at the end.

One night we had a really nice dinner that included Swedish meatballs and lingonberries. I would have tried herring if the opportunity arose, but it didn't.

Most Swedes looked a bit better than this.

Paul and I found this little boy in front of a building in Stockholm, apparently abandoned and clinging to his toy gun. Actually we saw the King's (?) motorcade go by there. I waved.

I want to know what Gastrikland is. This was at a rest stop kind of area on the way to Sundsvall, and we had shitty burgers and ate them next to a slightly scummy lake with deeply red water. It looked pretty if you didn't fixate on the scum.

Paul and Maartje in front of a statue of Colonel Sanders in Sundsvall. Sundsvall was our big daytrip, we drove most of the day to get up there because it would be the highest latitude any of us had been at (64,something). Our first idea for a day trip was Oslo because we saw a sign "Oslo 297" but it turned out that number was a highway number and not a distance in kilometers.

Paul above Sundsvall.

The beginning of Sundsvall's center.

For some reason there's a beach volleyball tournament touring up Sweden. They were going to go even further north than this for their next game. The MCs played pop music in loud 4-second bursts between serves. To make it EXTREME.

A TRUER WORDS WAS NEVER SPAKE.

More from the first couple days

Either a Deutsche donk or a Berlin burro.

This is the park I walk through on the way to Paul's work to meet him for lunch.

More good graffiti.

Friends everywhere.

Kangoo

My mom wanted me to make a blog from my trip to Germany, similar to the one I did in Japan. This one will have fewer photos of Japan.

I'm pretty sure this translates to something like 'stop obsessing over cars you yuppie pigs.' Graffiti is extremely extremely prevalent in Berlin.

Saxondale fans might enjoy seeing the new make of the Kangoo.

Paul likes when I visit.
Here's an intersection next to one of the canals near Paul's place. Everyone is dressed very summer-y. It's not too hot yet, today it even sprinkled some.
